At the moment the only ones I can find are created for KDE, I guess
because GNOME doesn't really support them. They're often surprisingly
professional.
Right now non-hardware sound mixing is only just becoming reliable enough
that ambient sounds work well - I don't know about you guys but I normally
listen to music whilst working which makes notification/usability noises
pretty pointless unless dmix or a sound server is active. Updating the
Right now, every time sound events are activated, so is esound (this
should probably be fixed, as ALSA solutions are getting implemented in
most Linux distributions), so we can assume that simultaneous sounds can
be played.
