Pidgin was working fine for me till 12.04 and I fresh installed 12.10
a few days back and I see this bug. It is very annoying. Please fix this
bug? I can send the debug log if it is required. What is more painful is
that Pidgin does not provide an explicit minimize to tray option.

AFAIK ^ has never worked correctly. I doubt anyone intentionally made Open
Office regular expressions incompatible with industry practice, so I think this
is a bug, not a missing feature.

Incidentally $ does match the end of paragraphs (as documented), but
seems to match the paragraph break (not just tne -position- at the end
of the paragraph), so paragraphs are merged forming a single new
paragraph. Except only one of a group of successive empty paragraphs is

I'm having the same issue in 12.10. I just noticed it two days ago.
I did quite a bit of updating from software center
Updated some Tweaks stuff and other programs.
Even added Htop hoping to catch something but all I caught was more freezes.
Today ..it happened about 5 - 7 times. I've worked about
This is on my radar to do but will probably make it in Quantal updates
at a later date. I should have some free cycles next week to look more
into this issue.

Intel X.org crashes of this sort used to occur occasionally in past
Ubuntu versions, but since upgrading to Quantal it's happening after a
few hours of uptime or less.

for completeness: One of the two Debian patches replaces
the theory of SAO-versus-TAO.
It turned out that the function, which transmits the
libisofs image data to the burn software, dropped every
second data block. (Actually the first block of each pair
of blocks.)
