On the one hand initial problem is gone - X starts ok now.
On the other hand final picture is buggy - video-buffer seems to be corrupted
and system is not really usable. I attach two screenshots of fresh Xubuntu
13.10 i386 desktop - one on Radeon (good picture), other on Rage 128 (corrupted

Failing that, try ctrl+alt+F2 to bring up a terminal. Log in (your

only external screen is working with asus
The 14.04 live-CD didn't show the same behaviour during my only one day
of testing. Once it didn't wake up at all, so even switching to a
console screen wasn't possible anymore, but the other times the system
woke up normally.
It also tried to switch back to kernel version 3.2.0.58 which also

OMG this is my problem. 2 days working on what in the world was
happening because the screen went black. Digging and digging until
finally I realized nvidia 331 was installing bumblebee and primus (What

Excellente, only did 2 steps and rebooted. All is working fine with
nvidia-331. After installing the nvidia-331 package and before rebooting
do the following:
sudo apt-get purge bumblebee
sudo rm -fr /etc/modprobe.d/bumblebee.conf
sudo reboot
Done.

Breaking the very standard behavior of right control in all applications
(e.g. xterminals!!) is really not acceptable, compared to the few issues
that the behavior has without it.
