- GRUB boot to recovery mode
- Drop to root prompt
- Remove a driver and install a driver

Some delays in responding because of client demands, then because the
storage configuration of the machine was incomplete and the debug files

is 'chromium-browser.desktop', whereas it should be
'chromium_chromium.desktop'.

Whoa! I have experienced something interesting.
The issue disappeared when I tried to debug something with mouse and use `xev`.
After starting it (and also after closing it) - focus issue disappeared.

Disabling 'desktop icons' from the extensions app did not work for me, but
renaming the
folder /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/desktop-icons@csoriano did the trick.

Just upgraded to 16.04 LTS and that works as well. To be clear, for both
14.04 and 16.04, the proprietary NVIDIA drivers are available via the
nvidia-304 package, but I'm not using those. The nouveau driver itself
works on 14.04 and 16.04.

we have discovered the exact same issue using an HP Zbook 15 G6 and an
up-to-date Ubuntu 20.04 installation.
- With standard settings, the laptop freezes at the login screen
- nomodeset does not stop the freezes from being happening
- when using snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0 as a kernel
