Public bug reported:
Just as the title says, the 20.04 and 20.04.1 images use the HWE version
of linux-generic resulting in upgrades to the 5.8 series kernel. This
seems to effect Ubuntu only, or I should say I checked the Kubuntu,
Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu, and Lubuntu iso manifests which all
@ihler [and same comment may apply to others...]
How have you ended up with -hwe kernel getting installed anyhow?
Default behaviour of particular install iso image? Because clicked some
option somewhere? Some sort of 'unintended/accident' and only later
found the consequence of k5.8
@Robie,
The Hirsute doesn't have this regression since I cherry-picked the
upstream patch to Hirsute, all needed patches are in the Hirsute
already. But for groovy and focal, the patch can't be applied to them
without changing, so I backported the patch to groovy and focal, the
regression is
@osomon: I'd also kindly ask for more information on what's blocking
this update. Thunderbird version 68 - which is the standard mail
solution shipping with Ubuntu 20.04 right now - is over 6.5 months old.
The upstream version got numerous security fixes over the last half
year. Doesn't feel good

You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Your deb file resolves the
issue for me. Thanks for putting in all the effort!

Also: For those stuck without Nvidia working on k5.8 -- simple short-
term thing to do, is hold down SHIFT at system startup (exact timing
depends upon system) to get to the GRUB boot-menu, and then select
"Advanced options for Ubuntu" (or thereabouts) submenu and then you
should be able to boot
Have verified that on 16.04, simple-scan to email now works again
following the reversion of the original fix.

Unfortunately I was never able to solve this. It appears the Windows

As a work-around I purchased a small USB sound card and plugged into
that.

@dikiy-evrej I don't think that the recent change was in Thunderbird.
The recent change here was to drop the attach= parameter from the mailto
URL passed to Thunderbird, so that if you click a malicious mailto link
in e.g. Chrome, it can't trick you into sending arbitrary files.
Problem was that
seems, that support of attach was removed from thunderbird and claws-

to invoke an e-mail-Program
