I'll also confirm that I use Thunderbird and have had other strange
issues with Thunderbird windows not closing correctly after messages are
sent. The application can be completely killed yet Dock still indicates
that there are windows available (but no way to access them).

I have two computers both on Ubuntu 21.04 Wayland and Thunderbird
1:78.11.0+build1-0ubuntu0.21.04.2, and strangely this bug only affects
one of my computer...
I don't know if any additional information from those two machine can
help identifying the bug origin ? or maybe it's already identified ?
BTW adding the section to 70-wacom.conf only worked with a fresh install
of Ubuntu 20.04

So it looks like this has to do with the Wacom driver. I am able to get
it to work again but without being able to configure the tablet itself.
However the pen is recognized and working fine.
What I did is specifically add my tablet to the file
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/70-wacom.conf by adding
1.20.12 should arrive soon, but I'll include the patch in the meantime

I can also confirm that this issue only happens when I have Thunderbird
open. On my system, Thunderbird opens messages in a new message window
and this is when the problem seems to occur, although it doesn't happen
every time.

Not sure whether the upstream issue, which is several months old, is the
same. The present one seems to have kicked in for several users at the
same time at the end of June 2021.
It looks like it is somehow connected to Thunderbird.

i think that the MESA drivers should always be upgraded to the latest
stable version. Ubuntu should handle the MESA packages like firefox.
Ubuntu is the only officialy supported linuxdistribution supported by
