I did a dist-upgrade last night and it seems to have fixed the issue,
although I've only had time to check it twice today before I had to rush
off to work!

Yes, that's true, sorry false alarm from me, but it really truly did
work this morning, but as soon as I got home same issue, I wish I knew
what I did right. I'm afraid I'm still very much a novice when it comes
to Linux, only did the switch a few months ago I don't know how to do an
information
I just wanted to confirm that I am getting this problem too running an
Asus Apire One D257.
On awake it lets me type in my password but it loads a completely blank
screen that doesn't go away, I can however drop into a command line with
ctrl alt and f1-f6
