To reproduce:
1. Open Libreoffice
2. Type "Hello World"
3. Enable track changes
4. Press backspace twice
Expected behaviour: "ld" of "World" are marked as deleted.
Actual behaviour: "d" of "World" is marked as deleted.

The fix referred to earlier is against emacs 25. There appears to be no
backport of the patch in the emacs24 tree, so I have rolled my own
patch, based on the fix for emacs 25:
