Interesting that noone reacted on the bug.
I was able to circumenvent the problem with the proprietary nvidia
drivers. Actually I wanted to avoid this on a new installation, but I'm
unable to work if the system freezes randomly if I enter a webpage with
a video or launch a video podcast :-(

I've read the comments in #977588 and created this as a new bug.

This is a vanilla installation of 16.0.4 without any nvidia drivers,
just the default noveau installation.
When I launch chromium or a podcast via gpodder/totem the screen gets
marbled and the machine hangs /no reaction on mouse movements or
keyboard clicks or numlock on/off)
This bug relates to #1539634 - make sure that you only install newer

Is it possible to somehow block libnl-updates until the network-manager

Since 14.04 is a LTS this is rather risky indeed.

What a nasty issue - in case other people run into it as well (like said in the
forums:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2311705).
A direct download link for 14.04.0.3 is:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/amd64/libnl-route-3-200/download
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/amd64/libnl-genl
All 3 commands do not help with me - they just extend the delay between
freezes from 3-5min to 20min.

I was able to get rid of the amount of error messages during every
update by just purging and reinstalling the packages.
sudo aptitude purge tex-common kile texlive
sudo aptitude install tex-common
sudo aptitude install kile
sudo aptitude install texlive
Hope this helps other people as well.

Thanks for your comments and changes. In case the String (menu item '0

and changed since it's a major inconsistency in the UI and an obstacle
for users not able to read English.

Trying to switch back to nvidia seems to not have worked correctly, thus
noveau is loaded as fallback and the machine just froze again.

The problem still remains active.
After 2014-05-25 I switched to proprietary nvidia 331.38 for my GT218

freezes and display hickups.

My last comment seems to be wrong - the crash just happened with KDE, so
no direct connection to running Unity. System worked fine before
upgrading to 14.04.
These are the last lines of my dmesg when the screen is freezing and I have to

The problem seems to be connected to unity. If I run a KDE session I
wasn't able to reproduce the problem, but unity just freezes after
running a while without me actively doing anything with the box (audio
was running).

Neither root nor my normal user has any of these files/directories - the
