I had the same problem. Network manager didn't ask for the PIN for my SIM card and the logs showed: "(cdc-wdm0): cannot enable/disable modem: locked".
I managed to unlock the modem with mmcli (not nmcli, mind you!) I used the following to make sure my modem is recognized and find out its index: ``` # mmcli -L ``` Then I used the index and the SIM PIN to unlock it: ``` # mmcli -m index --simple-connect="pin=1234,apn=your-apn-here" ``` -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to network-manager-applet in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1622166 Title: network manager cannot unlock the USB 3G modem Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After inserting USB 3G modem it is visible in the system: :~$ nmcli d DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION wlp3s0 wifi connected coelinet4 enp0s25 ethernet unavailable -- ttyHS1 gsm unavailable -- lo loopback unmanaged -- however no connection can be created. A short glimpse at /var/log/syslog shows that the model is locked and sim pin is required. There are no dialogs open to enable the user to supply the pin. In the Broadband connection wizard there is no place to enter the pin and the connection creation fails.
