This happens to me now in Ubuntu 10.04 with Firefox 10.0.2 and Thunderbird 10.0.2 (from PPA thunderbird-stable). It worked previously, although I'm not sure whether it broke only with the latest Firefox release or even earlier. I don't use that function very often.
Anyway, this is what Firefox' error console says about it: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIExternalProtocolService.loadUrl]" nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://browser/content/browser.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 9876" data: no] And no, the workaround from the initial bug report doesn't work for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/680587 Title: firefox not launching thunderbird Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: firefox ubuntu 10.4 and ubuntu 10.10 Firefox/3.6.12 thunderbird 3.0.10 in 10.4 and 3.1.6 in 10.10 - the mailto: links in web pages are not launching thunderbird (nor showing it if opened) - the 'send a link' menus are not launching thunderbird (nor showing it if opened) To fix that, you have to go in preferences change the mailto action (original is Thunderbird (default) ): choosing other then selecting /usr/bin/thunderbird. After that the mailto: links and sent to menu items are working fine.
