I did not see the PX mode in BIOS settings, but I supposed it's the
same option to Switchable Graphics, which is being enabled but still

I cannot follow your steps from 2 to 3, since 3D controller will
disappear, it is not able to switch back to nvidia.
In between step 2 and 3, I have to shutdown the system first in order to
bring back nvidia controller.

Yes, I have to manually add english input, it is not in the input
sources list.
No, I'm not using Ubuntu Kylin, which use Simplified Chinese as default
locale.
I found this problem in Traditional Chinese locale environment on
stock 14.04 beta 2 image[0] .
And I did further

Because in default Traditional Chinese environment, there is no English
input.
Either way users need to add it by themselves or to know the hidden
shortcut in each input methods.
And I think this should be a bug, as English input does not existed at
fresh install or live desktop.

Thanks, indeed I should be more specified.
So when you are using any Traditional Chinese input methods, the output will
not be English alphabet characters,
although most of them does provides quick switch in between English alphabets
and Chinese output,
it would be more straight

There is another Dell XPS 9333 (201309-14238) with the same problem.
I've double checked the workaround that cypressyew mentioned in comment
#28 works with linux-image-3.11.0-18.
Also confirmed that this problem does not happen in linux-
image-3.14.0-031400rc8 [0].

yes, jockey shows three drivers:
fglrx_experimental_12
fglrx_experimental_9
fglrx_updates
I've tried all of them, and fglrx-experimental-12 appears the same
result, no glx support as well.

by following your steps,
the combination of Built-in Speaker and External Microphone, can record
and play correctly,
although the external headphone and microphone will both show up in
sound settings.
this is verified with alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu4

tried this by actively selected built-in speaker and external microphone
combination with a 4 ring jack(headset),
however the results are identical to tim's , unable to record anything
from external microphone but some noise.

Thanks, I've succefully build with this debdiff, now gpu works with
kernel 3.7, but it is not working with @leannogasawara's kernel
