It looks like fixed already. At least in Fedora 34, simple-scan-40.
I don't know what was a reason for the issue and missed point what and when it
was fixed.

Hi All!
Are there any progress in the issue investigation? I worry that if the
problem will be still there in the upcoming release of Ubuntu (12.10) it will
be unavoidable for many users because of absent Unity 2D.
Can we speed the investigation up?

I am on Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 and I connect to my office network using Cisco VPN
(network-manager-vpnc). The problem is that Empathy (with telepathy-sofiasip
installed) cannot connect to a SIP-server inside VPN (while e.g., Ekiga can).

I've tried other toggle buttons (e.g., Ctrl+Shift) and I've checked xkb-data
version 2.5-1ubuntu1 (precise) and 2.5-1ubuntu1.3 (precise-proposed). Both are

You are right: local user's settings do not have to affect the system-wide
settings. In this case the description sounds like workaround only. But in this
case there have to be a proper place within the user's settings area which will
keep the current user's setting not
