I added the following entry as advised
[Element Headset]
required-any = any
switch = mute
volume = merge
override-map.1 = all
override-map.2 = all-left,all-right
to these files
/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-headphones-2.conf
