Before 14.04 evince had best fit and fit width in the view menu,
allowing me to toggle these with keyboard shortcuts.
These items have disappeared and now I have to mouse to the zoom menu on
the right to select these options.

I have this issue in 17.0+build2-0ubuntu0.12.04.1, that is, I never have
a persistent indicator that I have new mail.
The workaround mentioned in bug #841116 comment 7 does not fix it.
