After reading up some more I removed alsa and pulseaudio and reinstalled
like this:
sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio
Now install again Alsa and Pulse Audio:
sudo apt-get install alsa-base pulseaudio
Then, reload Alsa:
sudo alsa force-reload
That made audio up and

Thanks Raymond, it took quite some extra tweaking in PAVU control to
make that work. I reset the config thru 'rm -r ~/.config/pulse;
pulseaudio -k' and adjusted the config. It is now stable again. It is
hard to convey what I actually did, because it is quite a lot. Als not
sure what is my

When I plugin a USB headphone the output is not recognized. The mic
works, but not the headphone. In phonon I see that when i plug in the
USB headphone, the profile chages to HDMI. In 13.04 it worked flawless.
Plugging in the headphone switched the sound immediately to the
