The second option for the scanner appears also in Ubuntu 20.04 after running
hp-doctor and so simple scan works also on Ubuntu 20.04.
BEFORE running hp-doctor I see the attached screenshot where if I click on the

Note: problem is solved for simple-scan 3.38.1-1 available in Ubuntu
21.04 where i can select the other entry for the scanner but NOT for
simple-scan 3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.0 distributed with Ubuntu 20.04 where

but I select 'single page' but then in preferences i see 'multiple pages from

Gnome software find only snap packages

On Ubuntu 20.04 installed gnome-software 3.35.91 click on the magnify
glass, enter gnome-tweaks -> no application found. Same for synaptic
and gparted.
gnome software is missing installing from Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa"

gnome-initial-setup shows the window 'ready to go' the window can not be moved
on screen and click on 'Open software now' has no effect.
