Mine broke on upgrade from 14.04 -> 15.10 -> 16.04 64 bit. I removed the multiverse repository, reloaded, added it back in, reloaded, then from the command line, reinstalled ubuntu-restricted-extras. For some reason, Synaptic wasn't installing anything. It just blinked and said all was well. I
