I use gnome on xorg on Ubuntu 20.04, and I see the scrollbar sticking
out past the bottom of the window also. The scrollbar also sticks out
to the right, as in the screenshot posted here. So I don't think
I don't think that the hinting has anything to do with the issue
regarding the 8 point Monospace Regular font being wider than it should
be. Changing the hinting settings does not affect the width at all.

It is rather sad that this is not fixed after several updates to the
libav packages have been released. Particularly noting how easy it is
to fix this. Updated libav packages were just added to quantal-updates
yesterday, but still not fix.

The real problem is not that compiz is not set to load with the gnome-
classic session. The problem is that notify-osd is causing the gnome-
classic session to fail, and then its fallback session, which is

Nevermind, I had set the exported the variable UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=0 trying
to disable the menus following something I had found online. It turns
out that was wrong. If you want to disable the global menus you need to
unset that variable completely. It is odd that if the appmenu is
