1. I can confirm exactly same behaviour of your commands (on other OS).
2. I do not sure if this is a bug.
3. If you try to use some screen inversion along with brightness reduce, you
may note that not only brightness becomes 'wrong', but the colored items are
shown in wrong color. This is due
I confirm this regression for these exactly versions of software.

Let me comment here, instead of commenting on duplicate bug, due to it more
related to XFCE and other apps (themes). So, looking at good news on bug
#1294699, i test my previously reported apps and found
Other apps affected by cairo bug, and can be fixed with LD_PRELOAD, as in #6:
firefox, chromium-browser, thunderbird (Save as... and File selection dialogs);
paprefs;
gimp's PDF import filter.
To make gimp's PDF import work again, a bit more complex command and more
library regression need:
Even using gnome-tweek-tool, i can't use ScrollLock LED (physical
keyboard light) as current layout indicator. This option exist but just
not work. I test it on two machines with latest Ubuntu LTS release. Both
machines also affected with NumLock LED Bug #1247668 . Lets turn Ubuntu
to professional
During further investigation, i found that apps subjected to this bug, starts
to work when i downgrade cairo library to one from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, which
version is known to be free from this bug. This is cairo 1.10,
libcairo2_1.10.2-6.1ubuntu2_i386.deb. Using it with 'dpkg -i' solves these
Other affected apps:
Latest LibreOffice (Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS):
soffice.bin: /build/buildd/cairo-1.13.0~20140204/src/cairo-scaled-font.c:459:
_cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion `!scaled_font->cache_frozen' failed.
(crash on Writer's save dialogue, works well before save)
Latest Gimp

Yes, that looks to be same problem. And no progress with that Bug
#1294699 is bad news, gimp and precision fonts are both essential for
me, so i am stuck with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, for a while...
** This bug
Yes, it is fonts related issue, as i can see now: i found a way to reproduce it.
1. Boot from live flash drive (i use 14.04.2 LTS 32-bit version for that)
2. Install 'gimp'
3. Enable Universe repos
4. Install 'gnome-tweak-tool'
5. Install 'xfonts-terminus'
(at this point, gimp will still run)
6.
Public bug reported:
On newly installed system, can't run Gimp:
[code]
$ gimp
gimp: /build/buildd/cairo-1.13.0~20140204/src/cairo-scaled-font.c:459:
_cairo_scaled_glyph_page_destroy: Assertion `!scaled_font-cache_frozen' failed.
gimp: terminated: Aborted

Public bug reported:
gnome-sound-recorder works well on Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS, but not work (record not
starting) on fresh installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS.
The symptom is Profile list (Recors as...) is emply.
gnome-audio-profiles-properties works as expected (show profiles, etc.)
Thanks.

Yes, this is working, thank you. But we can be even more happy, when
Presentation also will work in predictable/intuitive manner (not ignore
user settings, like Fullscreen mode does). That will conforms to Look
And Feel.

Instead, professional stuff just kicked from mainstream, include: dark color
