I don't see how the monitor is related to that bug.
I am also affected (12.04 Beta 1 Updated).
I tested in Three different monitors and the bug persists.

FLV videos flicker in Totem. Especially those with one image sequence.
Issue noticed in 11.10 and 12.04.
Occasionally MP4 videos do flicker too.
VLC and other video players do not suffer this issue.
