Same issue for me with 12.04 and Selphy CP750. However, came across this thread 
(link below) on the Ubuntu forums which suggests installing the CP520 driver 
instead works fine. I have done this and the printer works.

  Canon Selphy CP720 - not working

Status in “gutenprint” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have a canon selphy CP720 and it detected and installs a driver, but it 
doesn't print
  In ubuntu 8.04 the printer doesn't even look like it going to print, in 
Ubuntu 8.10 the paper makes 1 of 4 passes needed to complete a print and then 
stops.  This has been confirmed on numerous threads.
