Did the build process change between the 3.x series and the 4.x series? It would be very awesome if we can get a recent version of Eclipse into trusty. Considering that trusty is a LTS and afaik the 3.x series will not be supported that long anymore. There is still a lot of time before feature

Ubuntu (and especially Debian) don't like Oracle, they are packaged with OpenJDK. I don't know the functional difference, I thought the whole idea was that they were compatible. Anyway, Oracle Java 7 is not in the default repos. The reason Oracle's JDK is not in the default repos is because

Oracle Java is so similar to OpenJDK that it's doubtful there would be any serious hurdles. Besides, Eclipse4.3 is tested on OpenJDK 7 ( see http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/development/readme_eclipse_4.3.html#TargetOperatingEnvironments ), so it shouldn't be an issue. The real problem is that
