Marking Incomplete since OP has modified alsa-base.conf file.
@Eugenio: please remove the 'options snd-hda-intel model=auto' line from
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and restart your system. If you still do not
have sound, then attach the updated information with the following command:
I found sound working again after kernel update.
Currently using 3.2.0-33-generic
