Tommaso Bosco, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
I haven't seen this happen on any Ubuntu version with any of the
following AMD cards: ATI RV370, HD 4200, HD 4200M, HD 4870, HD 6850, HD
6870, HD 7950, HD 8570D. You really shouldn't be using Catalyst unless
you have a RadeonSI card.

@ Chauncellor: I've tried to upgrade from 12.04 and also to do a fresh
installation.
@ fpgahardwareengineer: Via PT880 Pro/PT880 Ultra
I can't provide the output right now 'cause I've upgraded to 13.04 and now the
command
sudo apt-get purge fglrx lightdm sudo apt-get install lightdm
Hi,
To the original poster, which chipset does the computer/mainboard uses?
Can you provide the lspci output?
$ lspci -vvv lspci.txt
Upload lspci.txt to this bug report.
I think I have seen a somewhat similar bug here.

That's a very strange way for it to get solved. When you earlier said
that 12.10 was also affected were you attempting an upgrade or a fresh
install?
It's possible that you've just had some unlucky upgrades or bad installs
if stock configurations are working correctly.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 512mb gddr5 pci-e with Official Catalyst 12.6.
When I try to log Ubuntu (Unity 3D), the graphical interface freezes, except
for the cursor. I can do ctrl+alt+f1.
when you say 'standard drivers' are you saying that installing the
proprietary driver didn't help?
Also, does gnome-shell work?
