Here is a trick that makes that suspicion even more probable:
1. Disconnect the drive.
2. Log out of your account, or lock the screen.
I added deja-dup to the bug-report so that this appears in *their*
bugtracker and not the ubuntu-packages. I'm sure this is a race
condition.

It still happens to me (just now) on 12.10 64bit. It has been happeninng
