Filing this as a Feature Freeze Exception now, 1.0 is very old (two
years old), now considered end of life, and 2.0 has been released a year
ago.

I have built 2.0 in my PPA and provided it for testing with no issues
reported so far, and have been running it for over a month.

I will prepare an updated package for 2.1 and provide it for more spot
checking.

In the interest of continued upstream support for the support lifetime
of trusty, I think we should upgrade to 2.1.

Title:
  [FFE] Upgrade wpa_supplicant from 1.0 to 2.1

Status in “wpa” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in “wpa” package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
New releases of wpa_supplicant are available: 1.1 (released
2012-11-06) and 2.0 (released 2013-01-12). They have bugfixes that
look like they’re relevant to the frequent disconnects I’m seeing on
  the MIT network; in particular,

          * improved PMKSA cache expiration to avoid unnecessary
  disconnections
