do your computer chassis have HD front audio panel ( with jack detection
) ?
did you select AC97 as Front Audio panel type in BIOS SETUP ?

Thanks for your report. I don't think this is PulseAudio related. Could
you check your file system for corruption, out of disk space, or
similar?

hi David/Raymond
there is no system trouble detected, and yes ac97 is selected and there is no
front audio panel.
that issue ( most of the pulseaudio updrades left unconfigured: dialog box
complaint about missing dependencies) has hapeared only with that 0ubuntu8
upgrade; all other upgraded
Note: i can listen sound streaming (radiotray for example) without issue
(pulseaudio seems to use the previous config, as it has failed to
reconfigure with the latest upgrade) and hopes it will also work with
the next reboot.

Well, was there some error causing pulseaudio to be left unconfigured?
Could you look in e g
/var/log/dpkg.log
/var/log/apt/term.log
/var/log/apt/history.log
...for error messages or anything else that could help us understand why
it was left unconfigured?

hi David,
the logs was clean; but i've found that dpkg had failed to purge an other
package cleanly, and was disturbing the pulseaudio config.
So i've rebooted and reinstalled the pulseaudio packages: that time the config
ended smootly. Doing that report invalid.
