Bug description:
I use ethernet as default connection, automatically connect and allow
all users to use. This network connection also has VPN connections
established on it, on boot. I do not believe I manually edited that
file. Manpage suggests that plugins may do so.

Confirm; we'll fix this properly soon.
The issue comes from the fact that NetworkManager itself modifies that
file when you change your default ethernet connection, even once, for
things like adding an automatic VPN, having static IP addresses, etc.
NM must not write to that file, and should
