I have since reinstalled the system from scratch and it boots OK now,
thus I cannot reproduce the issue anymore.

What's more funny, when I execute startx as root (i.e. sudo startx),
then the performance is back to normal.

- Whenever I boot my ubuntu, at the moment when splash wioth ubuntu logo
- should appear, I am taken to console login screen. When I log in and
- then do startx, Compiz loads, but without unity and the performance is
