My latest updates included Compiz; now I have Compiz package
1:0.9.11.1+14.04.20140701-0ubuntu1

It seems that the patch restored the global nature of the mouse buttons greater
than 8...
If I were you, I would open a new bug requesting also the the buttons 6 and 7
to be included.

Can it be that the fix stopped working in a later package?
I have the same problem as described above, although I'm using buttons 6
and 7 (scroll wheel left/right) to switch between workspaces.
Compiz package 1:0.9.11+14.04.20140423-0ubuntu1 is installed.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Sorry about breaking your extra button
bindings. What I'm trying to fix is tricky and has many corner case
exceptions such as this. I'll get working on this and get your button
bindings restored.
