Repro steps:
1. Install Ubuntu 14.04
2. Reboot and log in to Ubuntu
3. Open firefox and browse to "http://google.com/chrome";

Expected outcome:
Page loads and is viewable

Actual outcome:
Page loads, but then the whole system freexes. Upon moving the mouse a bit 
(changing the mouse's state) the entire screen becomes a black and white screen 
(the black bars are larger than the white).

What have I tried:
I have tried updating The linux Kernel.
I have tried updating all "Security Updates" including "ubuntu base".
I have followed the instructions at 
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSystemCrash
I have run a memtest (came back clean)
I cannot repro from the command line as the problem is in a GUI program.

I will attach the /var/log/kern.log that the wiki page asked me to
create.
