Public bug reported:

I reinstalled, from 12.04 i386 to 14.04 amd64, keeping /home.
I recreated other user and password.
Even after reboot the user won't see his name on greeter. The single way for 
him to log in is to switch user from my own system menu.
In the same way, guest account isn't shown, although available via the same 
path.
I have no lightdm.conf. I have users.conf instead with:
     hidden-users=nobody nobody4 noaccess
