Same here since 15.04 on lenovo l540 (intel graphics).
Changing the /etc/system.d/logind.conf default like suggested in comment 12
workarounded the problem for me.

We should focus on making this configurable,
Does an addition / changing 'HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend' in
/etc/system.d/logind.conf change the state?

Laptop does not
Same here on Ubuntu 15.05 and intel haswell integrated graphics. Laptop
won't go to sleep when closing the lid if an external monitor is
connected. Can manually suspend from the power menu, or closing the lid
with no external monitor attached.

sorry to spam here but this is working now. I don't know why sometimes
it works and sometimes not. (I mean working with the systemd work-around

211): when docked, it does not suspend when closing the lid

fixed the problem; that is I get the expected behavior that when

I am wrong. It only worked once in archlinux. I have no idea why it does
not work anymore.

when the lid is closed, I can see in Display Settngs or with xrandr that
the integrated screen (ldvs) is off.
If I use Suspend in the cog menu, the laptop goes to sleep normally.
