You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm getting purple or green spots on the video picture when playing videos with VLC. I changed the video output to OpenGL or X11, and the problem went away. When the window is maximized or full screen, the picture is fine.
This message appears when starting VLC: Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_i965.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory but I didn't find this file when searching packages.ubuntu.com. I haven't noticed this in any other applications, but I've only tried Totem, which works fine.
