I have the same problem with a ThinkPad X250, also with HD5500. Only
Xubuntu is affected, Ubuntu und Gubuntu work fine.
Workaround: Installation of an mainline-kernel 4.0.1
Here, installation of 4.0.9-generic did the job. Instructions:

thinkpad E550 with HD5500.

Until there is a fix, could anyone please recommend a workaround for
this?
Every time I suspend my t450s, I estimate there is a 50% probability
that I will have this white screen problem after I wake up. Restarting
my system every time gets annoying...
