Thanks for reporting. I'm not sure how this ended up under evince, so I've taken the liberty of moving this issue to the djmount package. As you mention, this issue has been fixed in newer versions. If need a fix for older releases like 14.04, you may want to look into the SRU Procedure [1] to get the patch included there as well.

If you install it manually from debian ftp packages, it works as desired. For the moment, there is no way to browse a dnla server like minidnla from Ubuntu 14.04 and watch a movie. VLC is broken since 2.0.8 and only repaired in 3.0...
