Done, after a long series of commits to make individual apps work...
As of commit 3a5f0f01fc12400bdde73cfb444e4c74353f8fa0 the following apps (at
least) now fullscreen properly:
Firefox
Chromium
Solitaire
LibreOffice
Mplayer
VLC
