I can reproduce the crash when creating a new database with libreoffice
base, in an up-to-date xenial x86 VM. Not with writer, but the crash
being in the JVM instantiation, it’s more than likely that it is the
same.

That looks very similar to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=865303, and is probably caused by the same root
cause that triggers the x86 build failures (bug #1700692).
