basic configuration options are not available in the standard settings
GUI.
P.S. Unity's performance problems were actually Unity itself. Compiz
performs brilliantly if you don't have the unity plugin loaded :)

Yeah, it's in tweak tools though that won't be default provided. It's
probably somewhat similar to unity where some hardware benefited from
reduced effects. (- likely on a lesser scale..?

I understand and agree gnome-shell's animations are poor in places. Sub-
optimal performance of the shell in general makes them sometimes miss
frames and stutter. Plus the chosen easing curves are also questionable
(bug 1713021).
But these are all fixable bugs. I would be disappointed if we
