I had the same problem, install the drivers with the command:
sudo drivers autoinstall
sudo reboot
then when you start it remains on the black screen.

For some reason I get this error also with kernel 4.4.0-134-generic
thought I have Hardware enablement stack installed. So maybe I have to
remove HWE to be able to use the Nvidia driver again.

I forgot maybe the bug was because I was playing while updating
something. Now it is working fine.
