Hi,
just an update, probably not related to the nvidia driver issue itself but
perhaps useful for people that stumble upon this page for a similar problem.
The startup hanging et ubuntu logo stopped without updating anything but
grub2 when i switched it to verbose mode.
method :
Edit /etc/def
The next step is to test v4.18-rc5.

With something perhaps useful :
I have grub for multi-boot, and only this one ubuntu OS installed
-When the computer was on, with ubuntu or another system, a system restart
leads me to grub, that leads me to ubuntu, and it is stuck.

I tried installing 4.18, but it persisted. I tried an older kernel, and
then the networking stopped working. I tried re-installing Bionic
Beaver, and when booting from USB everything works. But after install
and update, it's broken again.

@vanvugt, I installed nvidia-driver-390, and now the second display
doesn't work (again). I have removed it, but the damage persists. I'll
see what I can do re disabling in BIOS.

There are two nouveau commits which landed in v4.18-rc6 get backport to
Ubuntu's kernel.
Can you test mainline kernel v4.18-rc6 and see if the issue also happens there?

Judging by linux-image-4.15.0-46-generic.259292.crash, it appears a
kernel crash in the nouveau driver is the problem here.
If you are able and willing to disable the Nvidia GPU in your system
BIOS then you might find that also works around the problem.
A different solution would likely to be to
