@bcanderson Try to add string 'options snd-hda-intel index=0 model =headset-mode,asus-g73jw' to file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and turn off your laptop. After power on sound should work correctly everywhere. But, external mic disappear. :( I think sound + internal mic is better then no sound

Another reboot from Ubuntu back to Ubuntu and the Headset is still silent, BUT now the speaker sound works. Connecting and disconnecting the headset now has no effect on speaker sound except to mute when the headset is plugged in. I apologize for scattershot troubleshooting. -- You received
