@bcanderson Try to add string 'options snd-hda-intel index=0 model
=headset-mode,asus-g73jw' to file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and
turn off your laptop. After power on sound should work correctly
everywhere. But, external mic disappear. :( I think sound + internal mic
is better then no sound
The same issue on ASUS GL703GE, headphones doesn't work. It was working
some how on Ubuntu 18.04. Now I have installed Ubuntu 20 and this
headache back again. Anybody, please help.

Rebooted into windows 10, verified that I had sound then rebooted back to Ubuntu
NO SOUND
Rebooted ubuntu again and got sound from the speakers but no sound from
the headphones.

I didn't care for the way that I did troubleshooting nor the way I
reported what I did, so I did the following:
No Sound in speaker and headphones
commented out "options snd-hda-intel power_save=0" from alsa-base.conf
Here is the contents of alsa-base.conf:
# autoloader aliases
install
So for speaker:
If we don't add "model=auto" or "power_save=0", the speaker works fine?
or only works for 10s?
If adding "model=auto", the speaker only works for 10s?
If adding "power_save=0", the speaker doesn't work?

In theory, adding model=auto (comment #3) doesn't affect your sound
driver since even without model=auto, the audio driver doesn't apply any
fixup models to your machine.
Please do a test:
cd /sys/module/snd_hda_codec

echo 1 > parameters/dump_coef
Then test your speaker, when the
Another reboot from Ubuntu back to Ubuntu and the Headset is still
silent, BUT now the speaker sound works. Connecting and disconnecting
the headset now has no effect on speaker sound except to mute when the
headset is plugged in. I apologize for scattershot troubleshooting.

Correction. The sound through the speakers only lasts for about 10
seconds. When I plug the headset in there still no sound in the
headset, but when I unplug the headset the sound through the speakers
resumes but then quits after about 10 seconds.

I ran this: sudo echo "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" >
/etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel.conf and rebooted.
That resulted in both the speakers and headphones working. But
