I have the same issue, disabling all extensions does not help.
The bug appears when auto-hide is on, so basically makes auto-hide unusable.

Yes, it doesn't happen when auto-hide is off.

If you're feeling adventurous and want to try resetting all your
settings to the system defaults then you can run:
dconf reset -f /
I do it regularly during Ubuntu development because I often find myself
getting stuck
Running the app "Extensions" shows three enabled extensions:
Desktop Icons NG (DING)
Ubuntu AppIndicators
Ubuntu Dock
These all appear to be dependencies of ubuntu-desktop-minimal so I would
assume they are the standard configuration. They are the only extensions
present in

extension activated for your session?

To test this hypothesis I created a brand new user on the system, and
checked the behaviour of the activities search under that user. For the
new user, the search works as expected. So this must be the result of
upgrading.

Further context that might be of use:
This machine was upgraded from 20.04 LTS via do-release-upgrade -d a few days
after the stable release of 22.04 LTS.
When it was running 20.04 LTS, I was using the vanilla Gnome 3 shell package,
which was still installed at the point of upgrade.
