As a long-year Ubuntu and Linux Mint user, I always used to think this Create New Document menu was a work in progress. Since it is not an indispensable functionality, it seemed reasonable that this would be broken. But reading this bug report made me feel sad about it. Why on earth should it be

One solution that comes to mind would be to add an option to the bottom of the Create New Document menu called Create New Template. Here, the user could choose from a list of document types such as LibreOffice Presentation, LibreOffice Spreadsheet, etc. I'm not sure how the available template
