No way to
I don't even know what's going on with the greeters in newer versions of
Ubuntu. I assume XDMCP has been consigned to the history books. I guess
it's something I'll have to Google for a while to find a workaround.

Yeah, no change. Trusty seems to add an option for RDP but there doesn't
seem to be an option for XDMCP unless it is provided via a plug-in?
