Title:
"Main Menu" submenus scroll badly with Ambiance/Radiance theme

Status in “gnome-applets” package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion
Status in “light-themes” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Problem occurs with: Ambiance, Ubuntu 10.04; Ambiance, Ubuntu Maverick;
Radiance, Ubuntu Maverick
Does not occur with: Clearlooks, Ubuntu 10.04; Ambiance-maverick-beta, Ubuntu
Maverick

When using 'Main menu' instead of 'Menu Bar', and when the menu group
is too long to fit on the screen, I expect the scrolling functionality
to work properly when using the mouse. Unfortunately, when my cursor
leaves the scrolling button, the menu 'jumps' to where it started

  1. Reduce your screen resolution to ensure that scrolling will kick in. I
have an Asus N10J netbook, and the resolution is 1024x600
  2. Make sure you are using the 'Ambiance' theme (yes, it is important)
  3. Right-click on any panel, and add applet named 'Main Menu'
  4. Click on the newly created 'Main Menu' and make your way to System ->
Preference. There should be enough menu items there to get the scroller
buttons to appear
  5. Using the mouse, move your cursor on top of the scrolling-down button
  6. After you are at the bottom of the menu, try to select the last menu item
and see what happens: It will jump to the beginning of the list.

  Observation that I've made

  - This bug is not present in 'Menu Bar'
  - It is somehow related to the theme. Change the theme to Clearlooks, and
the scrolling problem in 'Main Menu' is gone
