@dave945: thanks for the examples, could you add a screenshot showing
the issue? The text seems fine there on the current Ubuntu serie, the
issue might have been fixed in newer poppler/evince versions (in which
case we should look at what commit fixed it and if it can be backported
to the lts)

Well I guess this is still a bug. I gave the web address to get the example
file, but here it is attached as requested.

numbers typed in. As you will see, they go in straight but appear
sideways. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Document Viewer 3.4.0 using
poplar/cairo 0.18.4.
