I haven't noticed any regressions in the proposed gnome-power-manager.
As pitti said, g-p-m is mostly just gnome-power-statistics now.

Status in “gnome-power-manag
Dropping the apport hook was meant for precise, apparently you uploaded
the development packaging branch. But then again it doesn't hurt, as the
hook is completely useless. Note that g-p-m does not do power management
any more, it's just the statistics these days.
