The bug is a request to downstream this patch.

Why downstream it? Rationally even if this patch should cover all we
need, there could be a "nicer" approach, but we're not sure if some
Gtk+ devs will pick this bug and work on for 3.4.
The feature, though, has top priority for our light-themes
